Maria Ahlholm is a docent in Finnish language, with specification in Applied linguistics, and she works as a Senior University Lecturer at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki. Maria’s research focuses on themes related to emerging proficiency in the Finnish language, multilingualism, and language-aware teaching. Her main research data is collected from preparatory education aimed at newly arrived pupils in elementary schools. In MIGDIA, Maria examines the relationship between the learners’ first language(s) and emerging Finnish language among newly arrived pupils.
