Taavi Sundell (Ph.D., World politics) is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher in the MIGDIA project. In his research, he focuses on the global governance of refugee education within the context of ongoing economic and refugee crises in Lebanon. In his doctoral dissertation, Taavi developed a post-foundationalist discourse theoretical approach to the political economy of higher education. He examined questions related to economy, ownership, and democracy within the Finnish and Jordanian university systems, and in the field of scientific open access publishing.
In the MIGDIA project, he continues to explore some of these themes and investigates the ways in which international actors frame issues of education and refugee education in relation to economy and democracy. From 2019 to 2022, Taavi worked as a researcher at the Finnish Institute in the Middle East in Beirut, focusing on the political economy of Lebanon. As a MIGDIA researcher, he is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
